“By repurposing waste wood and utilising it efficiently, we not only create high-quality furniture but also contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing process. Our commitment to sustainability helps reduce waste and promote a greener future.” – Kylie Tyszyk
We manufacture all our seating at our warehouse, where we have devised an innovative way to manage and repurpose waste wood. Here’s a glimpse into our sustainable process:
1. Receiving and Sorting Wood
We receive wood from an international kitchen manufacturer, helping to prevent it from ending up as general waste. Upon arrival, we meticulously sort the wood to identify pieces suitable for furniture frame production.
2. Cutting and Component Preparation
Once sorted, the wood is cut into various component parts using our Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine to minimise waste. These parts are then used by our joinery department to assemble furniture frames. By using waste wood, we minimise the need for new wood, making our production process more sustainable.
3. Assembly and Upholstery
The assembled frames are sent to our upholstery department, where they are covered in materials chosen by our customers, ensuring each piece is customised and unique.
4. Recycling Offcuts
Even the smallest offcuts are not wasted. They are transferred to our wood waste chipper, where they are shredded into wood chips.
5. Biomass Boiler Heating
The wood chips are stored in a silo and used as fuel for our Biomass boiler. This boiler heats our entire factory, eliminating the need for gas blowers and significantly reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
